Nearly 15 years with this bag

Nearly 15 years with this bag. Great size for laptop, notebooks and a slim water bottle or two. Gets better with age. I had Duluth Pack repair a couple of self inflicted injuries to the pack and it looks better now than the day I bought it!

Product Review

This pack looks amazing; I was so excited when I got it. However, the disappointments started the very same day I got it in the mail. \n\n"Multi-generational heirloom" Really? I got this bag in Sept. 2020 and it is falling apart. This should not be happening on a $240 bag that only goes with me from the house, to the car, to the office, and back again. I've stopped using this bag since it will only get worse. Very disappointed, even a $90 Spitfire backpack from PacSun lasted me 4 years of HS and 4 years of college! I still have it to this day!) Horrible! Horrible! Stitching! On the left side where the compression flaps meet the bag closure has come undone down to the top of the laptop sleeve; and the same is happening on the exact spot on the right side. The stitching is coming undone even in places where it doesn't make any sense; like around a riveted leather piece that holds one of the front buckles. Also, the stitching around the leather card-holder has come undone 1/4th of the way down. And I don't even us it; the little card that came with the bag is still sitting in there. One of the stitches around the leather that holds the shoulder straps had failed.\n\n2) One of the metal buckle/rollers had a little rough bump; making it impossible to adjust without scratching the beautiful leather strap. Do this enough times, & soon you'll dig into the leather since it scratches the same section of leather as you work it in and out of the buckle. Complete disappointment.

I'm an EMT and some times I have to spend nights on base. This pack is great for bringing along bedding and change of uniform. Likewise the pack hauls everything I need for school and weekend adventures. \nOnly wish I have is the side pockets being big enough for a Nalgene.

Product Review

Duluth Pack has an unbelievable assortment of bags and after using the Duluth Pack #4 on several trips to the BWCA, I wanted to upgrade my daily work bag to something more timeless and versatile. I have had the pack for almost 9 months and has made it to work with me daily, and on several trips as well including Mackinaw Island this summer, Phoenix in January, and most recently a trip down to the Dominican! This pack will hold an enormous amount of stuff if you want it to. I used this as my luggage on 2 separate occasions and fit all of my possessions. The flaps on the inside increasing the volume are awesome if overstuffing the bag, but can get in the way daily when the pack is not filled completely. The leather straps are thick, and after a couple months they loosen up and are not as stiff as they were when I purchased it.The padded laptop sleeve works well to separate the contents inside, and also works well as a pad for your back.\n5. The quality of the build is apparent. After months of use the color has not faded, the stitching shows no sign of failing and the leather straps have become worn and the bag is even more user friendly now. I am 6 foot 3 and the bag fits me perfectly. I was a little worried about the size being a little large, but after using this I feel I made the right decision going with the Scoutmaster over the smaller Scout. I love the key clip and the zipper pocket. While traveling, it is nice to clip my keys inside the pack and know that they will not be lost on the trip. The strap connections being on the bottom of the pack. I really like the new design on the smaller scout but the option wasn't available on the pack when I made the investment. The straps can slip around the side of the bag when it is not filled completely and makes carrying a little awkward. The water bottle holders on the side are a bit small. They fit my 18 oz Hydro Flask when the bag is not filled completely, but there is no way of fitting a Nalgene or large bottle in these holders.\n3. Not really a major con, but when the bag is not filled more than half full, it can become a bit droopy. I remedy this by tightening up the shoulder straps. The leather portion of the shoulder straps are extremely long. Even with the bag completely full, I still have 3 notches remaining and I am 6 foot 3, 230 pounds. I do not see how or why anyone would need these to adjust fully out and that just leaves the excess strap dangling. I remedy this by folding the excess strap back into the buckle to eliminate the amount of strap hanging low. Overall I would highly recommend this pack to the daily bag user that prefers a backpack of a laptop bag. It holds everything very well, would accommodate very large to small sized computers and can serve as a daypack on vacations or camping trips. I cannot wait to invest in the smaller Scout for my wife!

Keep in mind that this is a well put together, American made, affordable bag.... but it has a caveat, to really keep it in good shape you have to by the necessary creams, and care products.

Great computer pack

The Laptop Scoutmaster has been my go-to computer bag for over 10 years. Great size for laptop, a couple cords, notebooks, pens, etc. Side pockets hold a slim water bottle perfectly. Keeps getting better with age!

Very solid and well built. I utilize the pack as a daily computer carrier for business purposes. \n\nAs noted in previous reviews, the side pockets are a bit small. A tall/skinny stainless steel water bottle fits perfectly. \n\nThe single inside pocket is great to organize your small things, but, sometimes gets in the way when loading the pack up full. \n\nThe bottom of the laptop sleeve would benefit from some sort of padding; just be careful and don't throw your computer into the pack. \n\nAll in all, I wouldn't trade my well worn, 10 year old Laptop Scoutmaster (no side wings like the new ones have) for any new computer bag on the market and/or anything less than $500 cash.

Product Review

I bought this one thinking it would be good for every day lugging laptop plus spare fleece, water bottle, trauma kit in a silnylon bag, my little canvas EDC bag, pen case, notebook, snack, all that stuff.\n\nThe usual high-quality Duluth, except...The sleeve inside? The bottom on mine was NOT padded -- the front and back of the sleeve ARE -- and the laptop, when inside, "bottoms out" from the weight all the way to the unpadded bottom of the pack. Fortunately I discovered this inside my house on a rug when I first let go of the pack to put on my coat on our first outing. Thud. Whaaa? My fix is a pack-width "vee" of closed-cell foam taped inside the bottom of the pack's sleeve, but the tape doesn't stay stuck, so it's an ineffective fix. I bought a pack that was made just before they came out with the winged version of the Scout pack so maybe there was an error in mine -- I find myself defaulting to that Scout pack and shoving my laptop in there, and this pack stays home far too often. NEWBIES, be aware that the Scout pack is a FLAT pack, no sewn sides to it, front and back sewed right to each other (thus "envelope") so putting anything into it reduces its width as it assumes the shape of the contents. I didn't think of that when I bought this "sided" pack -- it's a bit wide for me at 5'7" and slender. Kind of a bummer. Before you buy, ask if the bottom of the sleeve IS padded...if yes, then 100% awesome pack. I may wind up cutting out the sleeve altogether, alas.

This bag works nice for carrying my laptop. I like that there is a sleeve in the back against the back of the bag to help keep the weight close to the body.
