The pack itself is decently made and should do a good job for what I need but Unfortunately the pack arrived with white marks all over it
I have used this pack for about 4 or 5 years now. I get constant complements which is something you don't typically think about when you are shopping for a pack. Most of the time it is just a laptop and a book are my contents. I took online classes and carried it with me everywhere to do my school work in any free time I had. My B.S. was obtained by me and this bag lugging things around. Now I use it when I need to take something to work or short hikes. Now that may not sound like rugged use of a bag, but its been tossed in my truck thrown across a room, set on every piece of outdoors material you can imagine and still looks brand new. I love seeing the USA tags every time I open it. The price is worth it. I imagine the price is why some of you read these reviews because it was for me. It's not expensive when you think about it. This made in America pack will be the last pack you ever buy.
Longest lasting back pack I've ever had, comfy and rugged!! Use it for absolutely everything, will be getting more of there stuff in the future!
Thank you Duluth Pack for making quality products. This is the second Scout and third pack I have bought and love them. The quality stitching, zippers, buckles and material used make them the best you can buy. \n\nI personally prefer (and recommend) the waxed khaki for its look and feel, however that is more personal preference.
I've bought loads of stuff from Duluth Pack in the last several years but they've all been for gifts. This Black Friday I decided it was time that I owned one. I'm so pleased. No more using an old cross body purse for hiking, cross country skiing and walking. This pack is the perfect size for ski wax, extra head gear, hand warmers, keys, wallet and cell phone. It's the right size so it's not bugging when you when your on the trail.
This pack was my first pack from Duluth and i have to say that after three years of extended use every hunting period still rocks!!\nIt carries all my essentials for a day or two days trip (,for small game hunting),like water bottle, cup, extra shells, first aid kit, poncho, thermal bivy and blanket,my fire kit, cordage and an extra knife. Also couple snacks and cleaning kit for my shotgun. All fits just right and there is no need for a bigger pack.
Quality
Nice small pack for day trips or to hold your "not often needed" items such as outboard motor tools and spare anything. I have the waxed canvas, which is both better looking and sheds water easily. Haven't seen it much this past year as the grandkids keep running off with it. If camping with your kids, nothing beats the Original #2 for you and the Scout Pack for the kids.
Purchased as a Fathers Day gift, my dad likes it a lot.
Love my new pack! My pack was out of stock and customer service was excellent and went above and beyond to get me the pack in the color I wanted.
great pack , super happy I got the waxed canvas . The pack fits fine and looks like it will take some heavy use
All the photos show coordinating/matching stitching. The pack I received does not. I purchased the color khaki, but the stitching is black. There are areas on the pack, the stitches look like the material was being chewed up or stuck. I don't think it would be as noticeable if the stitching matched the canvas. I still like my pack, but am just disappointed there wasn't anything mentioning the stitching would be different from what was photoed.
I purchase this tote for my mom for her birthday and she LOVED it! She has hiked with it several times and always notes about how spacious and comfy it is! Shipping was super fast too, which was great!
Since orthopedic docs and chiropractors all say don't carry heavy bags on one shoulder, too much strain on your spine that way, I decided I needed to find a shoulder pack that would make sense for me for work/laptop, trauma kit, and EDC stuff in. First I got 1 in tangerine, because in woods there are people with poor eyesight and itchy trigger fingers that might mistake me for dinner. I loved it. But I fell in love with the gorgeous rich loden green (aka OD green) and so when I could, and it was on sale, I bought my 2nd. I use it daily. It gets compliments often. Used it at prof'l conference. What I love best of all the things I love, is the fabric. This canvas is holding up astoundingly well, and it has softened with use so that I have found myself just about petting the bag when it's in my lap on public transportation. Yeah, I miss my dog, but that's not it -- the fabric is soft AND strong! It's sturdily slouchy. It doesn't exactly drape, it has way too much heft for that, but it feels...natural. I love that.\n\nThe leather piece that holds one of my buckles on has split, like the top half is unrolling itself, and I'm not thrilled about that, but I'll probably just ask a cobbler what kind of glue to use. Not worth shipping it back to MN. Also those roller buckles are fantastic. When I first read the description I had no idea why "roller" was necessary with "buckle." Now, I do, and wow, do they ever make it simpler and faster to open the pack. Worth the $$. <3
Terrible quality. The wax is slimy and dirt sticks to it everywhere. When i tried to wash it it ruined my washing machine with filthy waxy gunk. DONT BUY get a musette bag from rothco
My husband is going to love this!\nSuper sturdy pack that'll easily go as a smaller carry on, or hiking. I can see it being very versatile.\nThe leather straps are gorgeous and will only get better as the leather ages.\nDefinately will be buying these for gifts for my boys.
First of all, the quality of this pack is great, just like everything else made by Duluth Pack. The leather parts of the shoulder straps were too long for me as a petite person, so I did have to pay a tailor to get them shortened. It still gets five starts though because now it truly is the perfect pack for every day use - it's relatively small and compact, and yet it fits everything I need as a PhD student (laptop, wallet, notebook, and a book or two).
I ordered this pack to carry books, notebooks, and EDC items. Yes, I'm using it as a man purse. Don't hate. What I received is the same pack I used as a 6-year-old on my inaugural trip to the BWCA with my dad, all the way back in 1979. The memories came flooding back, and more than a little nostalgia set in as I loaded my notebook, Bible, and EDC items into the canvas. It holds all I need, and the white color gets better with use - for we all know dirt adds credibility. You know the rest of the story: It is a Duluth Pack and performs like one. The canvas, leather, and hardware are the best. I will be punishing and cherishing this overachiever for years.
I was looking for a purse replacement and this is it. The leather and rivets are beautiful and I can fit all my stuff in it. Straps adjust easily. Excited to see how the canvas and leather weather and develop character. I waxed the canvas which gives it a shine that isn't as attractive as the canvas by itself but unneeded the water resistance.
I chose the wax one. How great it is. Big up to the craftsmen @Duluth ! In terms of size, just what I needed for my 17" computer, some wires, a notebook with 2 different pens, and keys + wallet in the inside pocket. All of it in a "slim" backpack. The kind you can wear in the city. I'm not trekking, I'm just walking! 5 stars.
Bought the Scout for my college age daughter. She loves it.
I use this bag in place of a purse. It's perfect for my laptop, wallet, phone and maybe a knitting project. I love the simplicity of it, and the inside pocket that keeps my pens from disappearing in the bottom of my bag. Bravo!
