Freelance Briefcase

I've wanted this bag for two years and finally pulled the trigger. So glad I did. The design and layout of pockets, zippers, size and details couldn't be better even if I'd gotten it custom made to my exact specifications. What I love most about this bag is the size. It is exactly the right dimensions to allow it to be a substantial briefcase but not so big that it feels like I'm carrying around a duffel bag. And, yet, it is also a great size to work as a weekender travel bag with enough room for two changes of clothes and an extra pair of shoes. Simply perfect.

I purchased mine in 2008 when I was teaching undergraduate respiratory therapy students. This bag has gone everywhere from back and forth from work, to around the hospital setting to check on students to overnight business trips. This bag has stood the test of time and is still going strong. Lately it has survived, rural hospital clinical shifts, a start-up company, and now two consulting gigs. The pockets are just right for the gear I carry. My laptop (in a sleeve), headphones, some snacks, a water bottle, and usually a book or two. It has the classic patina of a well worn, well traveled and much loved accessory. Im going to run this bag until I cant get it stitched, patched, or strengthened anymore. I think Ill continue to have this briefcase for quite a number of years. My son is a senior in high school and this is what he will be getting as he starts his college career and he will use it long after. The testament is the 16 years that I've had and loved mine under all conditions.

I've had mine for well over 10 years (or three computers ago), and it's holding up beautifully. I was reluctant to pay hundreds of dollars for it initially, but I'm so glad I did, it's been worth every penny, and will be for years to come.

In 2012 (it's now 2017), I got my first job as a journalist and bought a $60 name-brand bag to carry out in the field. I quickly blew through it and decided to invest in something that would last. I picked this bag because it was the size I needed and I wanted to support a local (to me) company. Now it's five years later, and this incredible bag is going strong. I carry it with me every day. I bike to work year round and sling this bag on my back each morning. Sub-zero temps, rain, heat, snowstorms, dirt and everything else my commute throws at me - this bag has stood up to all of it. On the weekends, I frequently clear out the work stuff and use it for trips up north. I've used it as a camera bag for all my gear, as an overnight bag for my clothes and as a carry-on for flights. When I think about it, this bag has become something that I depend on for daily function. On top of it all, the thing still looks great. There are only signs of regular wear - far less than I would expect at five years. If you're interested, invest in one and maintain it well (keep it clean, treat the leather). It will be with you for a good while. Maybe I'll post an update in another five years. I don't doubt that this bag will hold up and keep carrying my stuff like a champ.
