A Legacy and History You Can Depend On
Our brand was born and raised in the northern forests of Minnesota. Duluth Pack is proudly the oldest canvas and leather bag and pack manufacturer in the USA. Continuously since 1882, Duluth Pack has blazed the trail for manufacturing quality outdoor gear in America. Our company’s mission is simple, straightforward and has never wavered. We handcraft the highest-quality premium American made canvas and leather outdoor gear, packs, bags, and hunting equipment that is guaranteed for life on all craftsmanship and hardware. We stand behind our products that stand the test of time. Buy it once. Have it for life.
Duluth Pack’s story began on December 12th, 1882 – over 140 years ago with our founder, Camille Poirier, a French-Canadian immigrant, at the helm. After migrating west to the forests and waters of Duluth, Minnesota in 1870, Camille Poirier built a small leather shoe shop with his little stock of leather and tools he had at hand. Due to the rising demand for hardy and durable gear, due to the four local and prospering industries of the time (railway, port, timber, and mining), Camille Poirier began outfitting the workers. After painstaking design and field-testing, Camile Poirier patented a pack design with a tumpline function, the “C. Poirier Pack Sack” on December 12th, 1882. Duluth Pack, as the brand would later become known world-wide, was born. This original pack design is still handcrafted and sold today as the #2 Original Pack. As time went on, Duluth Pack’s designs were adopted for being the ultimate portaging and canoeing Boundary Waters and Canoe Area and Wilderness outdoor packs. Our products have been continuously and rigorously time-tested since 1882.
With the twenties roaring right around the corner, Duluth Pack focused on what Americans were now asking for, travel and recreation products. Jump-starting our growth and popularity, Duluth Pack began selling bags to the first Abercrombie & Fitch store on Madison Avenue. This created many of the durable, premium-quality, packs, luggage bags, purses, and accessories that we are known for today.
As history faded, Duluth Pack's values have held strong for over a century. Meaning that every single piece of canvas or leather has been cut, sewn, riveted and crafted right in the same historic site where it all began. Pride has been a foundation for our brand, which is why we showcase the person behind pack through hand-signed special white tags located inside every finished bag, giving it that final American-made touch. Our products are built for a lifetime of use, and we are proud to stand behind them with our Lifetime Craftsmanship Guarantee.
We make our bags at home in the USA.
Always have. Always will.
Today, Duluth Pack's customer base and community has grown international, invoking adventure, not just for outdoor enthusiasts but for everyday life. Although the canoeing lifestyle will forever be engrained in the company’s heritage, the brand has evolved with its customers and their lifestyles. Duluth Pack is a community of not only outdoors people, but gear experts. The team’s mission is to support and honor the company’s American legacy and core values.
