Cornerstone of the portage
  • Rating

This is my second Duluth pack. Of the 8 packs I own this is my go to for trips with portages. The first pack I bought some 20 years ago has seen many trips and although well used shows no rips or tears. The deluxe pack I recently bought already has rips and abrasions. I would definitely buy my next pack with the higher grade canvass. I also recommend caring for the leather straps. I have friends that never oil the leather and it eventually dries out and cracks. I treat my leather straps with Nor-v-gen leather waterproofing and the leather continues to wear well to this day. Soft and Supple.

A Classic

What can I say? This is a classic when it comes to canoe packs. It's shape nestles into the bottom of your canoe distributing its weight evenly without shifting, which is a huge plus for me. On portages, it rides a little low on the back, but it was never intended for extended land hauls. I recommend the DP shoulder pads as they are extraordinarily comfortable. Craftsmanship here is bomb-proof. I've logged many a mile with this pack on land and water and I've not so much as heard a seem pop. I love this thing!

I LOVE this pack!

This is the first Duluth Pack I've bought for camping, and I am EXTREEMLY happy with it. The padding on the shoulder straps make it more than worth the extra money for the delux version. It has a nice capacity, is relatively comfortable to carry, and like all Duluth Packs, is nearly indestructable. I would also recomend the side pockets for some extra storage and a map case if you love BWCA camping as I do.
