History of this Product

The Northwoods, a canoe pack design of Canadian origin, is very similar to the model favored by the late Bill Mason, dean of wilderness paddlers throughout the world. Mason was an award- winning and deeply revered Canadian filmmaker, naturalist, author, and artist whose work passionately exemplified his love for the wilderness and canoeing. Two of his films Paddle to the Sea, nominated for Best Short Film at the 1968 Academy Awards, and Waterwalker, a film documenting Mason’s personal journey on Lake Superior, are definite favorites among Duluth Pack staff.

Very functional

I have owned my pack for 8 years now. It works great and the side pockets are very useful to put your folding saw on one side and your tent poles on other. It is truly perfect to cram every thing in. The only suggestion and why i gave it 4 stars is that the tie strings on the top need to be longer, and or different. Maybe a clip with a sinch strap, So when i cram that last thing i can get it close. Great Pack!

I have owned my Northwoods Pack for over twenty five years. It has never let me down!!!! It has only gotten better with age. I have bought four more Duluth Packs over the years. My Kids argue over who will get my Packs when I'm gone.

Happiness is a Northwoods Pack!

I am a big fan of Bill Mason so when I discovered that Duluth Pack designed a pack like the one he used I had to have it. I am really glad I did because it really does allow you to "stuff" one more item inside. I think it has all the best features you could ask for in a canoe pack- it is a true work of art!!!!!

Took the northwoods on its first trip down the Chattooga River. It is nice to own a piece of gear that not only functions perfectly, but also makes you happy to use. The Northwoods certianly fulfilled this for me. A great pack!

I have owned this pack for eight years now and I have literally taken it everywhere! As a canoe pack it has no equal, (except of course for all the other fine Duluth products!), it has been one of my best gear investments. Combined with the waterproof liner it keeps my gear organized and dry. I don't think that I have ever managed to fill it and even with a small load it cinches down very nicely. Besides serving me well in the outdoors, this pack has moved me into college, gone on car and plane trips and always been there when I needed to move a lot of stuff. I think I would be lost without it! Thanks for making a fantastic pack right here in the USA!!!
