Buy the small forest axe

I have the hunter's axe and thought I would use smooth poll of deer--but have never needed; maybe if you are a moose hunter. Small forest is same size with more camp use for less money.

Top-notch piece of gear

This is a wonderful companion on the trail or in camp. It came very sharp, holds its edge well, even chopping hardwoods and going through bone. It's light enough and short enough to ride in a pack well without getting in the way, but large enough to do some pretty heavy work.

While the polished poll won't be very useful in hammering tent stakes, it does help quite a big when skinning large game, and is comfortable to hold onto when using the axe head as an Ulu knife.

Overall great tool for food/game prep and gathering wood for the fire.

Best axe ever

I picked up this axe a few months back and love it. The head allows a grip on the back side to use as a skinning tool and the overall size is perfect for trips into the backwoods.

I have owned one for 8 years. With it I have cut and split wood, chopped through Ice, and chopped through bone. The steel is very high quality and the workmanship superb. Very expensive-price has nearly tripled since mine was purchased.
