Full Description
In order to make the Wildland Firefighter Pack virtually indestructible, we started with our super tough 18-ounce canvas construction and then reinforced critical stress points with thick leather and hand hammered copper rivets. Inspired in part by our popular Wanderer Pack design, the Wildland Firefighter Pack features traditional side pockets with cinching straps, a leather reinforced grab handle, a drawcord closure for the main compartment, an interior zippered pocket under the pack flap, lash tabs with D-rings on top, and a heavy-duty adjustable padded waist belt. By taking our time-tested padded leather shoulder straps and adding adjustable web extensions to them we were able to lower the pack while being worn for increased comfort and security in the field. The lower compartment of the pack is intended for an emergency shelter tarp. It opens quickly with a quick release Velcro flap. The compartment detaches from the pack and can be worn independently as a waist pack.

Great bag for spike camp. Is the main bag detachable? Initial attack work sometimes dictates detaching the main pack and just carrying the fire shelter and a couple of bottles of water / fusees, ect...

Most serviceable day pack I've owned, though it was designed originally for other uses. Ideal weight distribution with solid leather harness that molds over time to your frame, like a pair of fine Limmer boots. I rarely buckle the side pockets or main bucket behind: the cinches suffice to keep things in place, and this leaves the perfectly situated and roomy compartments accessible while wearing the pack. The broad leather support belt is comfortable, but I wonder whether a cloth belt such as in the Monarch or Bushcrafter models might also do the job. The pack so far has endured six months of being dragged through cliff faces and brambles without a scar or tear, and I'm happier each week with my purchase.
