Full Description
With plenty of organization inside the big main compartment, it's great for sightseeing or fieldwork. Two built in divider pockets and a flat interior zippered pocket give you plenty of options for storage you can access quickly. A sturdy leather flap strap and roller buckle keep the flap secured and everything inside. Durable 18-ounce canvas construction strengthened with rich, heavy leather on the bottom and flap. Adjustable web shoulder strap has a non-slip leather pad to ease the strain. Because shoulder strap is mounted from the rear instead of the sides, the bag lays flat against your hip or back. - Just the right bag!

I recently purchased this beautiful Field Satchel for myself, and absolutely love it! The inner zippered pocket is great for my wallet, checkbook, gum, and other person items that I want kept in a small compartment. I love the slash pockets keeping my paper work and folders seperated! I can fit my laptop in the main compartment and my cell phone and ipod in the side pockets! The adjustable shoulder strap with the leather pad is fantastic, and overall I am very pleased and proud of my new Duluth Pack purchase!

- Great Travel Bag!

This bag is the perfect size! I live and work overseas so I'm constantly on the move -- I need a bag that I can take from work, to exploring, to going home. I also travel to some pretty wide-flung places, so my bags take a beating. This bag is just the right size to carry my camera (a larger Canon point & shoot), my 10" notebook computer, wallet, Kindle and other stuff I need in transit. I just got this bag -- but I think it's going to be my go-to bag for travel for years to come! And the customer service was AMAZING -- thank you!

- Perfect, and perfect fit for 11" Macbook Air

I had been looking for months for the perfect bag to fit my new macbook air, and the field satchel is the absolute best fit (with the computer in a sfbags sleeve). The quality is outstanding, the space is perfect, and I don't have a single complaint with the bag. It has tons of room, more than ample space for the computer, cords, and books or for an overnight trip. For the technophiles out there, the side pockets that are hard to make out in the pictures are the perfect fit for a smartphone.
Long story short, I wanted a high quality bag that could last me for the rest of my life, and I have no doubt that this is the one.Posted on 3/13/11 by sam

This was the first product I bought at Duluth Pack several years ago. It has traveled with me thousands of miles, has spent time in the rain, has been pulled, dropped , kicked and thrown yet IT STILL LOOKS NEW! The zipper has never failed dispite being greatly overstuffed. The stitching and canvas still look like it did when I bought it. In fact I get compliments by people who ask me where I got it. What is this kind of quality worth?? Buy the bag, it will work, it will last and you won't ever need another.

Great commuting bag or for every day use. Very durable and well made. Only issue I have is that I'm tall and the shoulder strap could be longer. Perhaps an optional longer length could be made available.

I purchased this bag in olive from Duluth Packaround the holidays. It has only 2 shortcomings: 1) the strap is a bit short for a tall person like me. 2) there needs to be a grab loop between the straps to pick it up. I brought both points up with DP and they agreed to include them on my next purchase of this bag at a nominal cost. They are making it for me right now. They really listened to my input and addressed my needs. I look foreward to my new bag and doing business with this company again .

- Great Bag

I love this bag. I've owned it for 7-8 years and not treated it all that well and it still looks great and is holding up like a champ. I used it primarily as a book bag through college and now with a cheap neoprene laptop case I use it as my laptop bag.
I suspect that sometime in the next decade or so I'll have to stop in the Superior Street factory and have a new strap put on since mine has been fraying for years, but in the mean time, I could have gone through a dozen other bags instead.
My only complaint isn't even entirely about this product, it's the fact that I couldn't buy the matching Duluth Pack laptop sleeve and use it with the Deluxe Book Bag I already owned. The sleeve is slightly too big to fit inside this bag with a 15" laptop in it.

- Got me through grad school

I bought this bag back in 97 and used it for my years in grad school and after until 03. During this time I rode bike to work every day rain snow or shine. I overstuffed it with heavy books time and again. I used it to run errands all over town. When I cleaned up, I used it for travel to conferences and presentations, and for a few years after.
After several years, some of the trim started fraying from use. I sent it back and DP replaced the trim. At this point I still have and occasionally use my pack, but use something larger to go to work nowadays.
Since I used mine for bike commuting for years, the 4 stars reflect DP not having a few things that specifically bike-oriented bags will include. First, someplace to hang a rear blinkie would be nice. Second, a little more volume would make it easier to pack a t-shirt on sweaty days.
OTOH, I don't think I have any bags that put up with such heavy duty daily use as this one, that are still going strong.Posted on 8/6/08 by mgibbons19
